DIRECTOR Afdlin Shauki
Afdlin Shauki’s first movie, BULI, surpassed all expectations commercially, and garnered several awards for the director including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the 2005 Malaysian Film Festival Awards, and Best Original Story, Best Screenplay and Most Promising Director at the 2005 Anugerah Skrin (TV3) Awards. His next movie, BAIK PUNYA CILOK was a raging commercial hit, and received a Seri Angkasa Award 2006 for Viewer’s Choice Most Popular Film, as well as an award for Best Original Story at the 2006 Malaysian Film Festival Awards. BULI BALIK, the sequel to BULI, also cleaned up at the Box Office and he received the Best Actor Award, at the 2006 Malaysian Film Festival. LOS DAN FAUN was shot in early 2006 and will see its release towards mid-2007.

SUMOLAH! promised to be a wild ride and no doubt it was, creating huge media and public interest as the next exciting installment in Afdlin Shauki’s film career. With Afdlin at the helm and the promise of an amazing story told, it immediately attracted the interest of the Executive Producer Silver Omega who invested in the film, as well as major sponsor Celcom.

I got the idea for the story in 2003. I saw a wonderful talent on Malaysian TV. He was Afdlin Shauki. I was inspired by his on screen character. From the way he spoke in the idiot box in front of me and his presence, charismatically he was there. And so I started to write this story as I had hoped that he will accept an offer to play the leading cast of the then script entitled NOKOTTA . Although I have worked with many Japanese actors in Japan, I felt that he was the only actor I know in Malaysia who can convey to a nationwide
audience the emotions and feeling, through the film.

In addition, I watched his first directed film, BULI and was surprised again with his talent as director too. I realized only Afdlin could make SUMOLAH. And he did.

This story is about the process one guy goes through in trying to grow up. Similar to the character, Ramlee, I, myself too, and of course, all crew did a little bit of growing up through the SUMOLAH production. This film has brought together an array of cast, crew, supporters and corporations from many countries. I realized that no border exists for a human being’s emotion, no matter who they are and even if nationalities differ. I believe that this film delivers to the audience the power and motivation, which will make you want to try
something.

Afdlin Shauki has been enjoying critical and commercial success with his two latest films, “Baik Punya Cilok” and “Buli Balik”, which collected RM2.8million and RM2.5million respectively at the Malaysian Cinema box office in 2006.

“Buli Balik” received a Best Actor Award for Afdlin Shauki and the Best Supporting Actor for Hans Isaac at the 2006 Malaysian Film Festival and “Baik Punya Cilok” received an award for Best Original Story as well.

From the reaction of fans and media to the announcement that Sumolah would be his next film, it is likely to be a sheer force to be reckoned with at the Malaysian Cinema 2007.

Award winning Actor, Director, Writer, Singer, Song-Writer, Producer, Screenwriter, Presenter and all-round entertainer, Afdlin first stepped into the entertainment scene as a theatre actor, writer and director. Since then he has excelled in various fields such as the live and recorded music industry,
televsion and most recently as a critically-acclaimed film director, writer and actor. He is also the main creative director in the conceptualisation of most of Visionworks’ fun and great programmes.

Christina Orow
Writer/Executive Producer
Apart from her vast experience in theatre, Christina helms the scripting processes as well as produces the programmes under Vision Works. Communication, negotiation and the creative
processes of building the programme are her forte, one that is highly valued on the team. Heads the Visionworks’ writing panel. Executive Producer for most of Visionworks’ tv and theatre projects.

Priscilla Orow

With a degree in Media Studies majoring in Film and Television, Priscilla’s talent lies in steering our productions effectively and efficiently. At the same time her creative perception allows her to make and implement creative decisions, making her a fantastic all-rounder who can manage almost any aspect of production – from creative to production to editing to sound-mixing. Ako Mustapha

Ako is a versatile and established television and film actor. For the dedication to his craft, he was awarded The Most Popular New Male Actor in Anugerah Bintang Harian 2003. Ako first stepped into the entertainment scene as a theatre actor and since then has gone from strength to strength. He has has starred in many successful local longform drama series and telemovies. He is also gaining accolades for his performances in recent films.

Nazatul Shima
Artiste Manager / Assistant Director
With a background in fashion design and wardrobe management, Shima is the sole representative for Afdlin Shauki as well as an important team member at Vision Works. On productions she has effectively played the roles of production manager and 2nd Assistant Director on film shoots. Organised, perceptive and efficient, Shima acts on her initiative and always sets her standards high.

Syed Ahmad Faizal ( PACAI )
Head of Music Department
Pacai, a former member of one of Malaysia’s premier Rock Band Ekamatra with multi platinum album sales. Being a top bass sessionist, he has also performed at International concert venues in Japan, United Kingdom, USA, China, Indonesia etc., for many local and regional vocalists. Having scored all
of Afdlin Shauki’s films, written and produced his own album and created an award-winning website showcasing his abilities and music, Pacai received a nomination for Best Film Score for BULI in the 2005 Malaysian Film Festival.
